Planning your engagement session is exciting—but figuring out what to bring can feel a little overwhelming. The truth is, the right preparation can make a huge difference in how relaxed, comfortable, and confident you feel in front of the camera. As a photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how some items can help at a session. When you have what you need, not only do the engagement photos turn out exactly how you’re imagining, you will be comfortably prepared for anything.
Below is a simple, practical list of what you might want to bring.
Your Ring
Yes, I know. This one seems a bit like a no-brainer, but I have had couples so wrapped up in everything else that they forget the most important item. Make sure it's clean and on your hand before you walk out the door!
Extra Shoes
This is mostly for the ladies. Bring a second pair of flats or slip-ons to swap out when walking. Your heels will look amazing in the photos, but I would hate to cut our session short because your feet are killing you.
Water & Snacks
Being a model is a workout. Just ask any of my previous couples. Hydrating is so important when you are out moving around, so bring more than you think you'll need. Pack a snack to settle your stomach, too.
Blanket
A neutral-toned blanket has more uses than just keeping you warm between shots; it can be used to sit on for candid shots, and it can keep you clean from dirt, sand, or grass.
Umbrella
When nature has other plans, it's important to stay dry. If we do shoot on a day where there's likely rain, umbrellas can prevent a disaster. Can we all agree that umbrellas in the rain create some romantic shots?
Jacket
Even if it feels warm at first, temperatures can drop quickly—especially around sunset. Bringing a simple jacket keeps you comfortable between shots, prevents visible shivering, and adds an extra layer of style to your photos.
Touch-Up Essentials
Lip balm or lipstick, powder to reduce shine, a brush or comb, hair ties (just in case). These quick fixes help you stay polished throughout the session.
Champagne
Who doesn't like spraying champagne? You have something to celebrate, so pop the cork off that bottle. You can't help but smile.
Sentimental Items
A necklace, a photo, a baseball card. Are there any items that reflect your relationship or hobbies? Sentimental items might offer great ideas for shots to help tell your story.
