I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where my high energy matched my creative mind. My mother tells me I was always drawing, creating forts, and telling stories. What started as a hobby soon turned into a military career as a Navy photojournalist. I have been blessed to live in multiple cities across the U.S. and visit dozens of locations worldwide. Everywhere I went, I took a camera with me.
My journey into wedding photography began while attending a friend's wedding. As I watched their hired photographer scan the venue, look for specific angles, and capture the story of my friends in love, I wanted to pick up a camera and join in the fun. Wedding photography seemed like a high-energy career, and I felt confident I had what it took to excel in it.
Nobody likes to feel awkward.
When couples have fun together, the photos capture themselves. Many of my couples tell me they aren't used to having their pictures taken, but leave saying, "That was fun!" That's my process in a nutshell. It's is inspired by those moments when couples ask, "What should I do?" I offer simple prompts, like walking hand in hand while admiring a beautiful sunrise or sunset, or a creative way to make your partner laugh. No matter what, you'll have fun as the photos are shot, and that's how it should be.
